Abbey & Abbey, Consultants, Inc. continues to be heavily involved
in assisting hospitals with the new hospital outpatient prospective
payment systems. The following gives a brief synopsis of our activities
over time.

- 1990-1991 Research and Investigation of the New APGs
Ambulatory Patient Groups
- 1992 Integrated APGs Education and Training Into Various
Workshops in Anticipation of HCFA [now CMS] Implementation
- 1994 Assisted a Number of Iowa Hospitals to Prepare
for the Iowa Medicaid Implementation of APGs
- 1996 Continued to Work With Hospitals Across the Country
Relative to Other Planned or Actual APG Implementations
- 1996 Published The Ambulatory Patient Group Operations
Manual published by McGraw-Hill [As pictured above]
- 1998 Commenced Work on APCs Ambulatory Payment
Classifications
Thus, Abbey & Abbey, Consultants, Inc., remains involved
with both APCs and APGs in preparing hospitals for this new outpatient
PPS.
One of the original programs was The APC Preparedness Planning
Program. This was a ten-module approach in preparing for
APCs that addressed the various facets of the coding, billing
and reimbursement process along with allied concerns such as the
cost report and cost management.
On a post-implementation basis, we now offer the APC Integrity
Program(sm), to assist hospitals with generating proper revenues
under APCs while maintaining a correct compliance posture. To
